Marcia was born in Chatham, starred in volleyball and basketball at John McGregor Secondary School, received a full scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Pittsburgh, a Division 1 school, where she excelled, and then went on to play professionally in Europe.

1992 to 1997
1992 – 1997 – attended John McGregor Secondary School – played volleyball, basketball, and competed in track and field – was chosen Female Athlete of the Year two times running in ‘95-’96 and ’96-’97 – twice was county first team senior all-star in both basketball and volleyball – during the summer of 1994 and 1995 – was a member of Region 3 volleyball team which competed in the Ontario Summer Games in 1994 – in the summer of 1996 and 1997 was member of Ontario Provincial Team becoming the first Chatham volleyball player to make a Provincial Team – 1997 – competed in Canada Summer Games representing Ontario and was named to the All-tournament Team
1997 to 2002
Attended University of Pittsburgh on a full athletic scholarship making her the first Chatham girl to play volleyball at a Division 1 school – she excelled and earned a starting position each year – in freshman year, played in all 28 matches and led the team in digs and kills – in sophomore year, led team in kills per game and played in 29 of the team’s 30 matches – in junior year, led team in digs, aces, and double-double performances, reaching double digit kills and digs in many matches – was named to numerous All-Tournament Teams throughout the season – was named the University’s Female Athlete of the Fall Season – in senior year, was recognized for achieving both 1000 career kills as well as 1000 career digs, becoming the third player in program history to accomplish this milestone and still ranks in the top ten all-time in both categories – after senior year, was inducted into University of Pittsburgh’s Varsity Walk and Hall of Fame awarded to the most outstanding female athlete of the year – previous male winners included NFL football players Mike Ditka and Tony Dorsett
In addition to her athletic achievements, received several academic awards – was enrolled in Pitt Blue/Gold Academic Club four out of her five years by maintaining a 3.0 average or better each semester – was recognized by American Volleyball Coaches’ Association for outstanding academic achievement three times
After graduating in 2001 with a degree in Business Marketing, worked in North Carolina for three years
2005 to 2006
2005 – 2006 academic year – went to Teacher’s College in Windsor to complete a Bachelor of Education degree
2006 – went to Europe to play professional volleyball for three years, first season in Austria then in Spain where she played on a first division team in 2007-2008 – twice was named to all-star teams of the week – was first Chatham native to play professional volleyball
Marcia currently lives in London where she works as an elementary teacher for the Thames Valley District School Board.
