1935 – 1948

1935 – 1937 – beginning at the age of 12, played softball for the Chatham Ladies Silverwoods team

1938 – 1940 – played for Maple City Laundry team – in 1939, team won Ontario Championship – led team in hitting (.513 average), runs batted in, and homeruns

1941 – 1946 – starred for Windsor Dairy team in the Michigan-Ontario League where she was scouted to play professionally

1946 – at age 23, signed to play in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) where she earned $55.00 a week plus all expenses were paid

1947 – traded to the Muskegon Lassies, but while at spring training in Cuba, broke her leg while sliding into home plate and spent the whole year in a cast

1948 – broke her leg again in a motorcycle accident, ending her career


After

After playing career was over, continued actively in athletic endeavours at local level – golf regularly 2 times a week at Ridgetown Golf Club, winning the club championship one time in 1984 – was an avid bowler with the Branch 28 Legion team in the Maple City Bowling League, carrying an average of over 200

1988 – along with all members of the AAGPBL, was recognized by National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY

1998 – along with all Canadian members of the AAGPBL, was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Marys, Ontario as an Honourary Member

Summer 1998 – City of Chatham erected a plaque in her honour in Tecumseh Park where she began her career – Marion Watson Stanton Memorial Trophy is presented each year to the most sportsman-like pitcher in Chatham Ladies Softball League


Marion passed away in Chatham in 1997 at the age of 74.
