1987 – 1989

1987 – competing in the Western Ontario Section Championships, Chris won a Gold medal in Pre-Novice Men’s and another Gold in Pre-Novice Pairs with partner Sherry Ball – came first in Pre-Novice Singles at the Ontario tryouts to represent the province at the Canada Winter Games held in Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia where he placed 4th

1988 – Chris and Sherry moved to Quebec to train at the Brossard Figure Skating Club just outside Montreal – at Quebec Sectionals, Chris was in top 3 in Novice Men’s and top 3 in Novice Pairs with Sherry to advance to Divisionals – were again in the top 3in both events qualifying them for the Canadian Championship – at Canadians Chris and Sherry were 7th in Novice Pairs and Chris was 13th in Novice Men’s

1989, they again finished in top3 at Quebec Sectionals in both Novice events – at Divisionals, Chris was 7th in Novice Men’s and he and Sherry finished in top 3 in Novice Pairs qualifying them for the Canadians – won the Canadian Novice Pairs Gold Medal – in same year, Chris and Sherry won Gold Medal in Junior Pairs at an International Competition in Germany


1990 - 1995

1990, was in top 3 at Quebec Sectionals in Junior Men’s and went on to win Gold at Divisionals

1991 – after three years in Quebec, Chris returned to Chatham to train with the Chatham Figure Skating Club – won Canadian Junior Men’s Bronze Medal and as a result was a member of the Junior National Figure Skating Team that competed in three international events

1993 – because of a strong showing in the senior level at Canadians, Chris was a member of the National Figure Skating Team which included Elvis Stoyko, Kurt Browning, Lloyd Eisler and Isabelle Brasseur – also added to that team was Chris’s sister

late 1980’s and early 1990’s – overall Chris competed in seven consecutive National Championships and represented Canada at numerous competitions
Many countries in the skating world have a testing program in which skaters, by passing skill tests, presided over by official judges, advance to a higher level. As a skater advances, the tests become more difficult. The highest achievement in each discipline is passing the “gold” test. Chris has successfully achieved gold medal status in three different countries, Canada, United States and Great Britain.

In 1995, Chris received the John McKay Memorial Trophy from the Chatham Figure Skating Club. This trophy is presented annually to “a skater with a true passion for the sport of figure skating and a history of dedicated service to the skating community”. It is one of the highest awards presented by the club

Accomplishments

After retiring from competition, Chris performed professionally in several on-ice productions. He starred as Prince Charming with Disney on Ice. He also performed a lyrical interpretation of O Holy Night in the production of Blades on Stage which starred, among others, Elvis Stoyko and Chris’s sister, Shae-Lynn.

Chris is a certified NCCP instructor and has more than 25 years of experience in coaching and choreography in Southwestern Ontario and beyond. He currently teaches skating at the Granite Club in Toronto which is one of the premier social, recreation and athletic clubs for families in North America.
