Ron Blommers was born in Chatham in 1958, attended Ste-Catherine Separate School in Pain Court and then Chatham-Kent Secondary School from 1972 to 1977. While at CKSS he excelled in volleyball, track and field, and particularly basketball. After graduation Ron attended St. Mary’s University in Halifax where he won individual and team honours during his 4 years of basketball. Along the way, he represented his province and his country as a member of provincial and national basketball teams.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Chatham-Kent Secondary School 1972 – 1977
3 time team most valuable player (1975, 1976 & 1977) – twice league leading scorer (1976 & 1977) – received numerous All-star and MVP honours including Chatham Jaycee Blue & White Tournament, Strathroy Collegiate Tournament, and Brock University Tournament – member of OFSSA Basketball Champions (1977) – for long time was Kent record holder in triple jump with a jump of 41 feet and was 2-time Kent high hurdle champion
1976 – 1977 named CKSS Athlete of the Year
1976 – Ontario Junior Basketball Team member for Canada Games
1976 – Canadian Junior Team member for tournament in Providence, RI
1979 – inducted into CKSS Hall of Fame

1978 & 1979 – Twice member of Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU) National Championship teams
1982 – once CIAU Finalist () after winning first 32 games of the year and losing in the National final game to University of Victoria
1980 & 1981 – twice Atlantic University Athletic Association (AUAA) All-Star
1980 – Tournament MVP Husson, Maine
1981 – Concordia Invitational MVP
1982 – CIAU Tournament All-Star
1982 – St. Mary’s Team Captain
1982 – St. Mary’s Basketball MVP
Still holds 2 CIAU records, one-game field goal percentage at 100% (13 for 13 attempts) against Mt. Allison and career field goal percentage at 62.9%
Canadian National Team & Other
1976 – Canadian National Team member in Montreal Pre-Olympic Tournament
1978 – Canadian National Team member with Coach Jack Donahue and teammates Leo Rautins and Jay Triano in South America Cristol Ball Tournament in Argentina
1983 – 1988 – Nova Scotia Provincial All-Star Team member
1983 & 1984 – Canadian Sr. Men’s Tournament All-Star
2003 inducted, with the 1978 National Championship team, into the St. Mary’s University Sports Hall of Fame
2009 inducted, with the 1979 National Championship team, into the St. Mary’s University Sports Hall of Fame
Accomplishments
Ron is an accomplished artist, showing and selling his paintings throughout North America.
After living and working in radio in Honolulu, Hawaii for 14 years, he has recently moved back to Chatham where he lives with his wife, Beth, and their two children, Marley and Hunter.
